CAC (Canoe Action Camp): The purpose of CAC is to give junior & adult leaders an introduction to the sport of canoeing, and to help them be better prepared to assist in conducting canoe trips with their outpost. The camp is open to all Royal Rangers who have completed the 8th grade. Priority acceptance for applications received within the registration deadline will first be given for boys who have completed JTC & AJTC. In addition, all trainees must complete/meet the “Green Swimming Merit requirements” and be recommended by their outpost leader. The CAC is also open to Leaders and welcomes fathers who wish to participate as well. Minimun # Trainees 14, maximum # of Trainees will be 22. All requirements for the ‘Canoeing Merit’ will be met at this camp as well as the “25-Mile Award”. Aside from the training experience, this camp will also provide an opportunity for outstanding adventure in some of the most beautiful canoe country in America.
The Canoe Action Camp (CAC) will begin at the base cabin in Bath NY on May 31 – Jun 2, 2019. CAC Staff will start arriving around supper time Thursday, and the rest of your campers will arrive that evening. All campers must arrive by 7:30 AM Friday May 31, 2019.
The camp will provide meals starting Fri. breakfast at 7:00 AM and ending Sunday lunch. Friday we will canoe 9 miles on the Seneca-Cayuga Canal, going through either 3 or 4 locks. Saturday and Sunday canoeing locations
will depend on water conditions at the time, Expected float will be approximately 13 miles on the Cohocton River from Bath to Campbell on Saturday, and the 5 miles on the Chemung River from Corning to Big Flats on Sunday morning. There are spots on all 3 bodies of water where we stop for swim breaks, although Sunday morning’s schedule might not allow for it on Sunday. Note: actual water bodies used will depend on water levels at the time of trip.
